Ms. Jean Davis, a young 86 years of age (July 1930), became the oldest woman climber of the Oak Island Lighthouse, on Thursday, July 22, 2016.

Jean, who now lives in Rochester, Pa, had a good reason for climbing to the top of the iconic landmark.  “For 13 years we had a second home on Oak Island, and while I drove by it many times, I never once went inside.  This year my family returned for our annual vacation and my daughter saw the article on the oldest man to climb.  Interestingly, he lives about an hour from our home.  So, my family signed up and I knew I had a great support group to help me climb.”

(The guides who accompanied Jean noted she had no problems getting up and down, and was actually breathing easier than most of the other climbers!)

Jean keeps in shape by going to the YMCA five times a week.  She says she’s always been active and has never smoked or consumed alcohol.

This is the first lighthouse she’s climbed.  Will she come back and do it again?  “Of course,” she replied with her infectious smile.

The Friends of the Oak Island Lighthouse presented Jean with a special ceramic Lighthouse Christmas ornament to mark her accomplishment and look forward to seeing her in 2017 when she sets another record at 87!
